LOTHAR BAUMGARTEN

Son of an anthropologist, Baumgarten lived some years with an indigenous tribe in the Venezuelan Amazonia. He has been one of the first artists who introduced representations of minority cultures in the Western cultural scene in the late 1960s. The authors in this anthology give readings of Baumgarten about both the legacy of colonialism and modern anthropology as well as documentary photography and site-specific practices.
